Roy Neary, an electric lineman, watches how his quiet and ordinary daily life turns upside down after a close encounter with a UFO.
'Close Encounters is a Spielberg's version of 2001: A Space Odyssey set on earth. While it has well made sequences and good cast, the film falls to be a bit tedious. Sure, 2001 is slow moving but it is interesting and mysterious. Spielberg's vision of Close Encounters is more fantastic than scientific which is perfectly fine, but I kinda like more scientific approach. Interestingly Spielberg depicts the main characters family only as a nuisance that the protagonist is better off eventually. A mistake that Steven did not do twice but I like it. I also liked that there are no cliched military personnel who are instructing to use violence on the aliens nor there are no other political stuff involved. Only exploration. Not Spielberg's best work but well worth the watch!'
